About Terence Conran
Sir Terence Conran was born in 1931 and began his illustrious career as an interior designer. Having worked on the Festival of Britain's South Bank site, Sir Conran set up his own design practice in 1956, working for names like Mary Quant and, in 1964, formed the Habitat home and interior design shop. Habitat went on to become a leading chain in the industry, and Conran expanded the store to incorporate brands like BHS and Mothercase, although he lost control of the chain in 1990. As well as selling interior designs and homeware items, Conran has also established several successful restaurants and private clubs.
He has also written more than 50 books that outline his design philosophy and was awarded the Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in 2017. He has won numerous design awards and several honorary degrees and qualifications. Daughter Sophie Conran and Son Jasper Conran has followed in their parents' footsteps, becoming celebrated designs in their own fields.
